Dentist

Caroline had her regular dental appointment today.  The results were not so good.  She has to go back on the 26th for two, possibly 3, cavities.  I feel awful.  She does brush her teeth at least twice every day.  However, I am really bad about saying "Caroline, go brush your teeth."  She is four.  I should be brushing her teeth for her.

To top it off, I was the mom who started crying at the dentist office.  As the dentist was telling me about all of the cavities my eyes just started watering.  And they would not stop.  It was awful!  I just hate that Caroline has to start getting fillings at 4 years old.  It is too early for her to not enjoy her trips to the dentist.  An adult will now be brushing her teeth every morning and night.

Big Girl Bed

My friend Robyn gave us a toddler bed several years ago.  So, when it was time to move Caroline out of her crib we put her in the toddler bed.  It is one of those things I would never have spent money on, but I was really glad we had it.  It has worked great for us.  We could continue using it because Caroline still fits in it really well.  However, my dad has had this old bed of mine in an extra room in his house.  They are fixing that room up, so the bed got returned to me.  I don't want to store it in the garage so Caroline got a big bed today.  She was so excited.  As soon as it was put together she comes and tells me "Mom, I am tired.  I think I need to put on my pajamas."  She and Kayla had a great time playing in it all afternoon.

Here is my sweet little girl sleeping in her big girl bed for the very first time.

Our Week...

Caroline had her first field trip on Wednesday.  They took a trip to a local farm.  Caroline was really excited.  She was even willing to wear jeans, tennis shoes, and a bright orange shirt that was way too big for her.  I think she had a good time.  She has not said much about it, but I do know that she enjoyed the bus ride, there was a cow, and she did not step in poop.  That is all I know.

As for Kayla, it is fundraiser time once again.  Thanks to those who bought candles a few months ago.  Now we have salsa.  It is from a company out of Ardmore.  They put the Ovations label on their salsa.  Here is what it looks like.
She is selling it for $5 a jar.  All of the profit goes directly towards Kayla's competition expenses.  We only have 16 jars to sell.  I am not a huge fan of asking people to buy things so we only ordered 18 jars.  Lots of people ordered over 120 jars!  Let me know if you are interested.  If you are not into salsa I am sure she will be selling something else later!

I also started substituting this week.  I did a 1/2 day in a first grade class on Wednesday.  Today I did a full day in a pre-k class.  I really enjoyed it, and I think this could work really well for me.  It will be nice having something to do every once in a while to earn a little extra money.   I just can't get over how tired I am!

Fine Dining

So we have had some difficulties lately with Kayla's attitude.  And did you know she has the meanest mom in the world who never lets her play?  Yep, that is me!  So, she is getting to do a few additional things around the house this week.  Monday night she had to make dinner (after she put in a load of laundry).  She planned the menu, made it completely on her own, and cleaned up after the meal was over.  This is where we got punished a little bit.  On the menu was a piece of peanut butter toast, 3 little slices of a banana, and a container of mandarin oranges.  She was very proud.

After dinner I had to take her to school for family reading night.  Andy and Caroline managed to sneak off to Braum's.

Daddy's Girl

Here is Kayla on school spirit day.  They were supposed to wear the colors of their favorite team.  She said she was the only one in her entire school wearing Baylor clothes.  Her PE coach actually called her "Baylor" during class because he did not yet know her name.

Today I realized how much she is like her father.  It was hamburger day, and I actually sent her out the door with a piece of cheese in a baggie.  Just like her daddy did when he was a kid.

My Little Punky

My Kayla is a very unique individual. She has her own sense of style. This was her outfit for school today. Everything is a different color. She has decided that she does not need to dress cute for school everyday. Her reasoning: "Why should I? We have to go there EVERY day." Little does she know I think she still looks pretty darn cute.

The Spoon

This one little spoon has been on my mind all morning. I know it sounds crazy, but I have not been able to get it off of my mind. This is my baby girl's second day of school. This is her first day to take her lunch. She told me exactly what she wanted to take: a sandwich, yogurt, applesauce, and milk. This is the spoon that was to go in her lunchbox. It can be really helpful when trying to eat things like yogurt and applesauce. I found it on the counter after I walked Caroline to school this morning. I have gone back and forth in my mind all day about what to do about the spoon. Should I take it to her? But do I really want to be THAT mom? The one always showing up and disrupting things. Will they notice she needs a spoon? Will she ask for a spoon? It is not like she is going to starve without the spoon. My mom thinks that when they see her drinking her applesauce they will bring her a spoon.

I do realize I am acting like a crazy person. Worrying and over-analyzing something so little and insignificant as a spoon. Despite really wanting to run up there and take care of her, I am staying at home. She is a big girl and will be just fine. Now, I think I need to go and put that spoon away.
